Our Story
Windmill Acres Farm began in Winston Salem, North Carolina. It was started by Phil Fishel, Sr. in the early 1940's. The original Windmill Acres Farm still exists in Winston Salem though over the years, the city has grown around it. Phil Sr. passed down his love for Hereford cattle and agriculture to his son, Phil Jr., who then transferred the passion to his children. At a very early age, son Neil promoted the Polled Hereford breed by exhibiting at numerous fairs and national shows.
In 2001, Neil and his wife, Karen, purchased acreage in the Belews Creek area of Forsyth County and continued the tradition of raising and exhibiting prize winning Hereford cattle with their children. Their farm became Windmill Acres Farm-East, as it is located in the eastern portion of Forsyth County.
In 2017, they began private labeling their beef and selling to local customers who were seeking high quality beef grown locally and ethically. Windmill Acres Farm-East is a Got to Be NC Producer, a Voluntary Agriculture District farm and most recently, a recipient of the prestigious Century Farm designation. The farmland has been in Karen's family for over 100 years.
Our cattle are raised on grass and finished on grain. This diet provides the nutrition necessary to produce healthy cattle and high quality beef for our customers.
